- Enos Cabell started 144 games at 3B in 1977. He was a below average fielder, but he had his best offensive season. Enos was one of three Astros to steal over 40 bases and led the Astros with 101 runs scored.

- Rick Miller started a lot of games in center field in April 1977. He was injured in early May and missed four weeks. By the time he was ready to play again, Rick was mostly relegated to backup status. Miller did start several games in right field in July.

- Mickey Lolich decided to retire after the 1976 season because he didn't want to be away from his family in Detroit and in order to get out of his contract with the Mets. In 1978 Mickey signed with the San Diego Padres and pitched for two more years.

- It's too bad that the card that comes up on July 4 is an airbrush job. A player with a 1976 Bicentennial logo on his sleeve would have been cool.
- Alan Ashby was acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Indians on November 5, 1976.
- Ashby became the starting catcher for the expansion Toronto Blue Jays in 1977. He didn't do much at the plate (.210 in 124 games), but he threw out 48% of the runners who tried to steal against him.
- Ashby is now an announcer for the Houston Astros. He got into some trouble early this season (2013) when he remarked, "That'll force him to learn the language." as Yu Darvish was shown cursing in the dugout after losing his perfect game.

- Bruce Kison's 1977 season was the roughest one in his entire career with the Pirates. It was the only year in his entire Pittsburgh career (1971-1979) that his ERA was above 3.49.
