- Ted Simmons had a big workload in the 1970s. He played in 150 or more games in seven straight seasons (1972-1979). Although Ted occasionally played some outfield and first base, this workload may have contributed to the dropoff in his hitting stats later in his career. Ted would be a surefire Hall of Famer if the decline phase of his career would have been better.

- May 9 - Hit a game-winning home run in the 10th inning of the Cardinals' 6-5 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
- July 25 - Went 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBI as the Cardinals beat the Reds 9-8.
