1977 Topps Baseball #151 - Johnnie LeMaster


  • Johnnie LeMaster wasn't quite ready for the majors in 1977. Johnnie started the season with the Giants, but he was sent down to AAA Phoenix after batting .100 in the first seven weeks of the season. LeMaster came back up in late June to fill in for the injured Tim Foli, but he didn't get much playing time after Foli came back in late July.
  • 1977 Stats:
    • SF Giants: .149 in 68 games
    • Phoenix (AAA): .314 with a .414 on base percentage in 22 games

  1. Three amazing things about Johnnie LeMaster:

    1) He somehow exploded for 39 stolen bases in 1983, despite showing no previous talent for stealing bases.  He stole 94 for his career.

    2) In 1985, he played for three different teams: the Giants, Indians and Pirates, and all three teams finished last in their respective divisions.  

    3) Not only was he well-known for being a horrible player, but he exhibited self-awareness of how he was perceived, as noted in the following Wikipedia entry and incredible picture:
