1977 Topps Baseball #635 - Robin Yount

• Robin Yount was only 21 years old, but he was already playing in his fourth season in 1977. Robin was still a couple of years away from his All Star seasons.
• 1977 Stats: .288, 4 HR, 49 RBI in 154 games
• 1977 Highlights:
• April 27 - Singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Brewers beat the Boston Red Sox 4-2.
• May 18 - Had three hits and singled in the winning run in the 10th inning of Milwaukee's 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

1977 Topps Baseball #580 - George Brett

• George Brett enjoyed another good season in 1977. He didn't lead the league in any offensive categories, but he was a big part of Kansas City's success.
• 1977 Stats:
• Regular season: .312, 22 HR, 88 RBI, 105 runs in 139 games
• AL Championship Series: .300 (6 for 20) in 5 games
• 1977 Highlights:
• May 5 - Hit two doubles off of his brother Ken. The second double knocked in the eventual winning run as the Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 6-5.
• July 6 - Was hospitalized for four days for treatment of an infected left elbow. Brett got out of the hospital on July 6 and hit a pinch RBI single in the 9th inning to lead the Royals to an 8-7 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. 
• Oct 9 - Got into a scuffle with Yankee 3B Graig Nettles. Brett hit a triple and they got tangled up as Brett was going into third base.

1977 Topps Baseball #480 - Carl Yastrzemski

• Carl Yastrzemski enjoyed another good season in 1977. He was 37 years old but was still able to knock in 102 runs. He was an AL All Star for the 13th straight season (he was 0 for 2 with a strikeout) and even won a Gold Glove in the outfield.
• This is the second straight "action" card for Yaz. 
• 1977 Stats: .296, 28 HR, 102 RBI, 99 runs scored.
• 1977 Highlights:
• April 16 - Hit a 2-run home run and had an RBI double in Boston's 8-4 win over the Cleveland Indians.
• June 1 - Hit two home runs to help the Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 7-5.
• July 14 - Had a single and a home run and passed Ted Williams as the all-time leader in hits for the Boston Red Sox. The two hits brought Yastrzemski's total to 2,654.

1977 Topps Baseball #450 - Pete Rose

• Pete!!!!!
• Pete Rose's cards were probably the ones I looked forward to the most in the 1970s. He was my favorite player, and it took a long time for me to forgive the Reds for letting him go as a free agent after the 1978 season. Some of the luster of Pete's cards was lost when Topps double printed his card in 1978.
• Pete had a salary dispute with the Reds before the 1977 season. He finally signed just before the season.
• Rose led the NL in games played (162) and in at bats (655). 
• 1977 Stats: .311, 9 HR, 64 RBI, 204 hits in 162 games
• 1977 Highlights:
• July 25 - Had two hits in a 9-8 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Broke Frankie Frisch's record of 2,880 hits for a switch hitter.
• Sept 28 - Had two hits as the Reds beat the San Diego Padres 8-0. Pete got his 200th hit and tied Ty Cobb for the most 200-hit seasons (9). Rose would get his tenth 200-hit season in 1979 to pass Cobb.

1977 Topps Baseball #390 - Dave Winfield

• This was the first of 12 straight All Star seasons for Dave Winfield. Winfield doubled and had a 2-run single in the NL's 7-5 win.
• After the 1977 season Dave came close to being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. That would have been nasty, as the Dodgers also would have gotten Rollie Fingers in exchange for Steve Yeager, Lee Lacy, and Rick Rhoden. Close call.

• 1977 Highlights:
• April 10 - Hit two 2-run doubles as the Padres beat the Cincinnati Reds 12-4.
• June 3 - Homered in the 11th inning to lead the Padres to a 1-0 win over the LA Dodgers
• July 10 - Hit two home runs as the Padres beat the Dodgers 5-4.

1977 Topps Baseball #355 - Lou Brock

• Lou Brock started to slow down in 1977. He stole 35 bases, his lowest total since 1963. Lou was caught stealing 24 times, leading the National League.
• After Frank Robinson was fired from his post as the manager of the Cleveland Indians, Brock said that he had no interest in ever becoming a manager. He said it would be too difficult to please everyone.
• 1977 Stats: .272, 2 HR, 46 RBI, 35 stolen bases
• 1977 Highlights:
• May 30 - Went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI in the Cardinals' 14-0 rout of the Chicago Cubs.
• Aug 23 - Singled in the eventual winning run in the second inning as the Cardinals beat the LA Dodgers 2-1. The single was his 2800th career hit.
• Aug 29 - Stole his 892nd and 893rd bases, breaking the all-time record that was held by Ty Cobb. The Cardinals lost to the San Diego Padres 4-3.

1977 Topps Baseball #120 - Rod Carew

• When looking at the back of this card, it's hard to believe Rod Carew's best season was yet to come. He had a monster year in 1977. Rod led the AL in eight offensive categories -- batting average, runs, hits, triples, on base percentage, OPS, and intentional walks. Rod won the AL MVP award in 1977.
• This was another highly sought-after card for us. 
• Trivia: Rod Carew was an AL All Star every year of his career except his final year (1985). He was selected or voted on to the AL All Star team for 18  years (1967-1984).
• 1977 stats: .388, 13 HR, 69 RBI
• 1977 highlights:
• July 12 - Received 4,292,740 All Star votes -- the most in baseball history at the time.
• Aug 7 - Went 4 for 5 and helped the Twins win their 17th game in 22 tries. At the time Minnesota was 1/2 game out of first place in the AL West.
• Oct 19 - Selected by the players to the Sporting News AL All Star team
• Nov 15 - Voted the AL MVP for 1977
