- Mike Ivie had a pretty good year in 1976, but I don't know if it warranted him getting a "5" card in 1977.
- The Padres tried Mike at third base for a few weeks in August and September, but he didn't like the position and it didn't go very well. He had been suspended in May for refusing to play third base. At the end of the season Ivie wanted to be traded. The Padres accommodated him by trading him to the San Francisco Giants.

- 1977 Highlights:
- April 9 - Tripled in two runs in the 9th inning to break a 3-3 tie. The Padres beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-3 in a nationally televised game.
- May 20 - Hit a grand slam in San Diego's 12-4 win over the Montreal Expos.
- May 30 - Tied a record by hitting five doubles in the same day during a doubleheader. Mike doubled twice in the first game and three times in the nightcap.
- Aug 29 - Hit a 2-run homer to lead the Padres to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
