- Rick Miller started a lot of games in center field in April 1977. He was injured in early May and missed four weeks. By the time he was ready to play again, Rick was mostly relegated to backup status. Miller did start several games in right field in July.

- March 8 - Had his contract renewed (with a slight raise) by the Red Sox. Rick planned to play out his option in 1977. Rick asked to be traded on March 20, but the Red Sox were unable to make a deal. Miller signed with the California Angels after the season.
- April 19 - Went 3 for 4 and knocked in three runs on his 29th birthday as the Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 11-3.
- July 21 - Had four hits in four at bats to help the Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 11-4.
