- Brooks Robinson was a player-coach in 1977. Doug DeCinces established himself as the starting third baseman for the Orioles and Robinson didn't play very much.
- Even though he was an American League guy, Brooks was one of my early favorites. Perhaps it was because I had a Slurpee cup with him on it. When I was little I figured a player had it made if he was on a Slurpee cup. I had Robinson, Greg Luzinski, and Ken Henderson.
- 1977 Stats: .149 (7 for 47), 1 HR, 4 RBI in 24 games
- 1977 Highlights:
- April 19 - Appeared as a pinch hitter and hit a 3-run homer in the 10th inning to propel the Orioles to a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians.
- Aug 21 - Announced his retirement as a player. The Orioles needed to activate catcher Rick Dempsey and Robinson had only one at bat in the previous month.
- Sept 18 - Was honored by the Orioles at "Brooks Robinson Day." The Orioles lost to the Boston Red Sox 10-4. The loss was a blow to Baltimore's hopes to win the AL East.
- Oct 3 - Won the Joe Cronin Award for significant achievement in baseball.
