- Holy miscut, Batman!
- Joe Torre wasn't doing a lot with the Mets in 1977. When manager Joe Frazier was fired on May 31, Torre was tapped to be the player-manager for the Mets. Joe made two pinch hitting appearances in June and played in his final game on June 17.
- The Mets went 6-1 in Torre's first seven games as manager, but after the trades of Tom Seaver and Dave Kingman they tailed off quickly.

- 1977 Highlights:
- April 9 - Hit a pinch double in the 9th inning that scored the tying and eventual winning runs. The Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2.
