- Frank Tanana enjoyed another good season in 1977. He was selected to the AL All Star team (he didn't pitch because of an injury), got the nod for the Opening Day start, and led the AL in ERA and in shutouts. He did all of this despite missing the last month of the season with a tired and swollen arm.
- 1977 Stats: 15-9, 2.54 ERA, 7 shutouts
- 1977 Highlights:
- April 6 - Shut out the Seattle Mariners in front of an opening day crowd of 57,762 at the Kingdome in Seattle.
- April 29 - Earned his fourth straight victory by allowing two runs in 11 innings. A Don Baylor home run finally put the Angels ahead to stay in the 11th inning.
- June 10 - Won his tenth game of the year by pitching a 2-hit shutout against the Cleveland Indians.
