- Jorge Orta could swing the bat. His numbers don't look as impressive by today's standards, but they were quite good for a middle infielder in the 1970s.
- After being tried at various positions over the previous few years, Jorge settled in as the second baseman for the White Sox in 1977 and in 1978.
- The White Sox had some distinctive uniforms during this time.

- April 12 - Went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI to help Chicago beat the Boston Red Sox 5-2.
- July 8 - Drove in five runs with a double and two singles as the White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 10-7.
- July 11 - Doubled in two runs to help the White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2.
- Aug 23 - Signed a three year no-cut contract with some of the pay deferred. Jorge was happy about having the added security.
