- Dave has provided Cubs with improved hitting and solid defensive play? Wow. The stats on the back sure don't bear that out.
- Ivan DeJesus was the starting shortstop in 1977. He played in 155 games, which didn't leave very many chances for Dave to play.
- 1977 Stats: .220, 1 HR, 9 RBI in 56 games (82 at bats)
- 1977 Highlights:
- June 7 - Got a start at third base and went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI to help the Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-4. At the time it was a battle of the two first place teams in the NL.
- July 28 - Entered the game in the 9th inning and went 1 for 3 in a 13 inning game. His single in the bottom of the 13th inning scored Rick Reuschel and allowed the Cubs to beat the Cincinnati Reds 16-15. The game featured 11 home runs by the two teams.
- Sept 8 - Made a pinch hitting appearance in the 10th inning and singled. Dave later scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Bill Buckner.
- Dec 5 - Traded to the Cleveland Indians for two minor leaguers
