- This was Stan Thomas' final season in the majors. Thomas was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 1976 expansion draft. Stan pitched for the Mariners until being sent to the New York Yankees on August 2 as part of a conditional deal. Thomas spent the rest of August in AAA Syracuse and then was brought up to the Yankees in September.
- Stan was traded (with cash) to the Chicago White Sox for Jim Spencer after the 1977 season. He was cut in spring training in 1978 and spent two seasons in the minors before retiring after the 1979 season.
- 1977 Stats:
- Seattle Mariners - 2-6, 6.02 ERA in 13 games (9 starts)
- Syracuse (AAA) - 2-2, 5.14 ERA in 9 games (6 starts)
- New York Yankees - 1-0, 7.11 ERA in 3 games
- 1977 Highlights:
- April 18 - Allowed six runs in six innings pitched, but got the victory as the Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 11-6.
- July 13 - Was fined by manager Darrel Johnson for throwing at Mike Cubbage of the Minnesota Twins. Thomas started the game on July 10 and pitched only one inning, allowing five runs. Cubbage batted twice in the inning and walked both times. Thomas had a personal feud with Cubbage and Johnson said that personal pique shouldn't be allowed to affect the team. Stan didn't pitch again for the Mariners.
- July 24 - Removed from the Mariners rotation. Seattle management said that he would either be demoted or traded.
