- Even though Jim Rice was an American League player, his card was one of the more desirable ones for us to get in this set. Jim finished fourth in AL MVP balloting at the end of the season.

- June 9 - Homered twice off of Baltimore's Jim Palmer to help the Red Sox beat the Orioles 7-3.
- Aug 29 - Hit three home runs in a losing (8-7) effort against the Oakland A's.
- Sept 27 - Was stuck in traffic due to a fire in a tunnel under Boston Harbor and missed the game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
- Sept 29 - Drove in four runs with his 39th home run and a sacrifice fly to keep the Red Sox alive in the AL East title race. The Red Sox beat the Blue Jays 7-3.
- Oct 22 - Voted to the Associated Press AL All Star team.
- Nov 15 - Finished fourth behind Rod Carew, Al Cowens, and Ken Singleton in AL MVP voting.

- 35 year ago today (4 January 1977): Mary Shane is hired by the Chicago White Sox as the first female play-by-play broadcaster. She didn't make it through the season, mainly due to her inexperience as a broadcaster. Here is her SABR biography.
