- It isn't very often that the Rookie of the Year is traded the following season. It also isn't very often that a pitcher like Tom Seaver becomes available. Pat Zachry started the 1977 season with the Reds but was traded to the New York Mets as part of a big trade that brought Tom Seaver to the Reds.
- Oddly enough, he had a better record with the Mets in 1977 than he did with the Reds. Pat had nerve damage in his elbow that limited his effectiveness early in the season.
- 1977 Stats:
- Cincinnati Reds: 3-7, 5.04 ERA in 12 starts
- New York Mets: 7-6, 3.76 ERA in 19 starts
- Total: 10-13, 4.25 ERA in 31 starts
- 1977 Highlights:
- April 27 - Allowed five hits in a complete game 3-1 win over the Atlanta Braves.
- June 1 - Won his first game since April 27 as he beat the Braves 5-2. Pat allowed four hits in the complete game win.
- June 15 - Traded (with Steve Henderson, Doug Flynn, and Dan Norman) to the New York Mets for Tom Seaver.
- Sept 2 - Pitched a shutout against the Braves for his third win of the season against the club.
