- The 1977 season was an injury-plagued year for Andy Messersmith. He was out for three weeks early in the season with sore ribs and then he was injured in early July and missed the rest of the season.

- June 25 - Knocked in two runs with a double and won his fifth game of the season in a 9-5 win over the San Diego Padres
- July 3 - Fell on his right elbow while fielding a ball and was removed from the game.
- July 5 - Placed on the 21-day disabled list due to an elbow injury. Andy didn't pitch again in 1977.
- Dec 7 - Sold to the New York Yankees for $100,000.

While with the Braves, Messersmith's uniform had "CHANNEL" instead of his name on the back. He wore #17, and TBS was shown on channel 17 in Atlanta, so Braves' and TBS owner Ted Turner indulged in a bit of marketing.
