- Gary Nolan didn't start the 1977 season with the Reds. In the beginning of the season he was sidelined with a foot blister and with mononucleosis.
- Gary started eight games for the Reds before being traded to the California Angels on June 15.
- Nolan finished the season with the Angels and had injury problems. He was released after the 1977 season and tried to catch on with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1978.
- Gary had shoulder problems and was released during spring training in 1978. He mulled whether or not to have another shoulder surgery and eventually decided to call it a career.
