- On April 5, 1977 Bucky Dent was traded to the New York Yankees for Oscar Gamble, LaMarr Hoyt, a minor leaguer, and $200,000
- Texas Rangers owner Brad Corbett was angered by the deal. Earlier in the year Commissioner Bowie Kuhn voided a deal that would have sent Vida Blue to the Rangers for $1 million.

- Aug 20 - Hit a home run and a double and had 3 RBI in New York's 6-2 win over the Chicago White Sox
- Oct 8 - Doubled to score Willie Randolph in the second inning of game 4 of the ALCS. Dent later scored on a Mickey Rivers single. The Yankees won the game and evened the series at two games apiece.
