- Ellis Valentine had the potential to do great things. The Expos had a good young outfield with Andre Dawson, Warren Cromartie, and Valentine. Ellis was hit in the jaw by a pitch in 1980 and missed much of the season. He wasn't able to get things going again and retired after the 1985 season.

- June 4 - Singled to score Andre Dawson and win the game in the bottom of the 13th inning against the St. Louis Cardinals
- July 4 - Hit two home runs and had five RBI in a 19-3 shellacking of the Chicago Cubs.
- July 14 - Selected to the All Star Game. It was Valentine's only All Star selection.
- July 19 - Went 0 for 1 with a walk in the 1977 All Star Game.
- Sept 10 - Hit two solo home runs in Montreal's 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates
