- George Scott was back with the Boston Red Sox after spending five years in Milwaukee. Scott was traded (with Bernie Carbo) to the Red Sox for Cecil Cooper.
- This was Scott's last big year. He made the AL All Star team in 1977. George played for the Red Sox in 1978 and part of 1979. He was with two other teams in '79 before going to the Mexican League for a few years.

- July 4 - Hit two home runs to help the Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6.
- July 19 - Hit a 2-run home run in the 9th inning of the 1977 All Star Game. After the game Scott helped Reggie Jackson get to his car after Reggie had a confrontation with a young fan in the parking lot. Later Scott blamed the fans for the AL's latest setback because in his mind they didn't vote in the best players as starters.
- Aug 18 - Had four hits as the Red Sox beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4.
- Sept 5-6 - Benched himself for a couple of games. He told manager Don Zimmer that he "wasn't prepared to play."
